Simmering

Waiting for any news from Rwanda.  Wondering if our family will complete this adoption.  Thinking about what it means for us if we don't.  Spending a lot of time thinking through church life and what that is supposed to look like for us.  Trying to keep up with relationships from our old church while dipping our toes into connections with new people.  Looking forward to a retreat in Asheville with my friends from book club (NO KIDS!).  Planning for the next school year at home and having the usual beginning-of-the-year trepidation over what is MOST important to teach these kids and the best place for them to learn those things.  Getting excited about the opportunity to doula for friends of ours at the birth of their first child. 

This week, simmering on this:

"Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts from the Lord.  They are stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for the future.  They will live in the barren wilderness, in an uninhabited salty land.  But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.  They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.  Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought.  Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit."  Jer 17:5-8

This is most certainly a season of stretching my roots deeper, thirsty for water from the deep and hopeful that it will be enough to not just keep me alive, but to produce verdant leaves and sweet, ripe fruit.
